JEWEL ROBBER FIRES AT A
, DETECTIVE,
SYDNETP, 18th July. . There has been a sequel to the motorcar jewel robbery. The police learned that the thieves would attempt to dispose of the proceeds, and set a trap at certain pawnbrokers' shops. A man appeared at one of them, but > evidently recognieed the detective on duty there, and fired pointblank, wounding the detective twice. An exciting chaee followed, in which other detectives joined. Fifteen shots . were exchanged.' The suspect escapetl.
