GERMANS AT JERICHO

AN OVERWHELMING DEFEAT

FRICTION BETWEEN HUNS AND

TURKS.

(AUSTRALIAN-NEW ZEALAND CABLE ASSOCIATION.) (Received July 18, 8.40 a.m.) ' LONDON, 16th July. Writing from Joricho on* Monday, Mr. W. T. Massey says that there are rumours of friction between the German and Turkish troops, and if they are true, the results of the action in the Jordan Valley yesterday will be sure to widen the breach. Three German battalions attacked with the object of seizing our water supply. After getting round a portion of the defences, they were held up and 'forced to surrender. The Germans expected two Turkish divisions to assist, but they made no attempt to do so. The Germans suffered an overwhelming defeat, and tlio Turks were -completely disillusioned. Their casualties were very heavy, and over five hundred prisoners were taken.
