FAMOUS OLD YACHT LOST.

The Fleetwing, a famous old racing schooner yacht, built at New York in 1866 for James A. 'Osgood, was wrecked on tho coast of Cuba 11th November

(reports an American marine journal). The yacht left New York last August for Fayal, Azores, and was returning from that port to Bermuda when tho disaster overtook lior. After a. long career-as a yacht she was purchased in 1905 by tho Baptist Home Mission Board, an-d for several years served as a harbour ''gospel ship.'* Demand for\tonnage growing out of the war in Europe led to sale, to Boston owners as a. trader. The Fleotwing was a contender in many notable races, particularly that from New York to Cowes, Isle of .Wight, in December, 1866, in which she finished- second to the Henrietta, while the Vesta, was third. It took the Henrietta slightly more than thirteen days to make the voyage, and the .Fleetwing's elapsed time -was eight hours more. During the race (says the New York Herald) four men were lost from the Fleotwing while out on the bowsprit lowering one oE tho headsails. She was'the largest of. the throe. This contest was one of the really big events of its, day, and occasioned extensive comment both here and abroad, even to the extent that Henry Word Beecher referred to it at length in one of his sermons.
