NOTES.
An Australian labour paper, referring to tho trouble !on , the Wellington wharves and the -regulations enabling tho Government- to toko charge, Btates, that outside labour hsw .already boon employed and it looks as though it 18 intended to utilise more ,of it. This statement, to put it mildly, is. cruita misleading. Whatever may bo the rights or the wrongs of the caso it must be admitted that only those men who mako their living on the watorfront havo been engaged in operating cargo. Such oh legations, besides being incorreot, are mischievous and not conducive towards helping in an amicable settlement of the dispute that has unfortunately arisen,' Resolutions expressing approval of the State's action in opening meat shops in Auckland have been passed by several unions in the northern centre.
Tho Amalgamated Society of Engineers has decided to ■ increase its superannuation benefit payments by 4s per week, consequent on the increased cost of living. The four grades receiving at present 7s, Bs, 9s, and 10s will each receive an additional 4s. The general officers' salaries have also been, increased for the flame reason.
