NEXT WEEK'S BALLOT

DRAW OF 7000 TO 8000 NAMES

EXHAUSTING THE Ist DIVISION.

. Voluntary recruiting for the 27th and 28th Reinforcements . will close -to-mdr-' row, and ;v ballot will be' taken next week from among members of the Ist Division of tho Expeditionary Force Reserve, for the purpose of ' making up whatever shortages exist. The ballot ■will be commenced <m Monday. Ac the ballot is for two drafts, it is expected that a much larger number of names than usual will be drawn—probably in the vicinity of 7000 or 8000. As 10,000 names have already been drawn in the first tlfree ballots, and voluntary enlistment has been proceeding at the same time it will be seen that by next iveek a big hole will have been made in the First Division, which originally contained 84,986 names. The chances of remaining members of the First Division being drawn in the ballot are thus being steadily increased. Many men instead of waiting further prefer to go in voluntarily; consequently a. steady improvement in recruiting is reported. The last chance for First Division men of avoiding the double ballot next week will thus be to-morrow morning.

The following additional voluntary recruits registered at the Town Hall have been passed as medically fit and sworn in as soldiers :— " ■ '
