SCHOLARSHIPS
Mention was made by Mr. T. Foreyth at the . meeting of the Education^ Board to-day of -the fact that only two^of the Junior and Senior National Scholarships recently . awarded had been taken by scholars at the secondary school, and all tho rest' liad-gone to the colleges.. This he saidi raised the question as to whether the tuition in- tho secondary schools was such as enabled the pupils to win these scholarships. The Chic! Inspector o! Schools (Mr. T. Fleming) pointed out that practically all the scholars who won the scholarships were from the primary schools,; and the only advantage they received..was a year's additional tuition at 1 the colleges.-,- . .
