IS THERE PROFIT IN EGGS?

TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—l notice "Ham and Eggs" has a letter in this evening's Post in which he quotes the statement of Mr. Brown (Government Poultry Expert) re the profit made on a pen of 24 hens last j-ear being £17 8s 7d, gross value of eggs sold £24 5s 9d. I would like to ask Mr. Brown or "Ham and Eggs" if he can feed 24 hens for 19 months for, the sum of £6 i7s 2d, which he would have to do, as those birds would not be old enough to commence, laying before seven months old. The price of pollard last year was £9 10s to £11 a ton, and wheat 8n 6d a bushel._ With feed at that prioe it is impossible to feed a bird under 2jd a week. , This for 19 months works out at £20 10s, showing the profit to be £3 15s 9d —a. wonderful return for over twelve months' labour ! —I am, etc.', \ MIRAMAR. 4th May, 1916.
