SINGLE MEN FIRST

TO THE EDITOR.

• Sir, —It's a pity, at this time, that women have not something more useful to fill in time than to protest against conscription. It's, a pity, from a recruiting, point of view, that the two German cruisers that were about to bombard our main centres had not done so. Just a few three-quarter-ton shells to land in each town, and you would have had everyone say conscription right away. Had this bombardment taken place, Mr Massey would not be out on recruiting campaigns; he would have as many recruits as he wanted. I feel like blowing the bugle outside the Government Printing Office, and see how many single men fail in. There are a few plump birds In the P and T. Stores at Pipitea Point to be had as well. I say, "Sack the 'single men; don't employ them." Let the Government, start, and private employers will follow suit. Down on the single men first. Married ones afterwards.—l am, etc., MARRIED REJECT. 29th April," 1916.
