TWO DISTURBANCES

Tlie barometer has fallen slowly everywhere since yesterday, and the distribution of atmospheric pressure this morning apparently discloses two disturbances, one to the north-west and the other to the south-west of the Dominion. These two may possibly neutralise each other to a certain extent in certain parts, so far.as the wind is concerned, but together may be responsible for considerable rain, especially in the northern and southernmost districts. This depends upon which has the greater intensity. At present the indications are that the northerly tropical disturbance will display the greater energy, in which case a storm may be expected on Monday or Tuesday, if not before, with heavy rain, especially over the North Island. Altogether the outlook is not promising, although the two storms may neutralise one another for a time; but that cannot be counted on. Cloudy skies are very much in evidence to-day, and showers have been experienced in parts durinnthe night. Easterly and northerly winds have predominated, and are likely to continue and increase.
