PETONE BOAT SHELTER
DISCUSSION AT THE LOCAL COUNCIL. In a letter to the Petone Borough Council last evening, the Heretaunga Boating Club made it quite plain that the boat shelter, concerning which some controversy has arisen, does not meet with requirements. It was suggested by the club that, with a view to discussing the question and bringing about- an improvement, a meeting of representatives of the council and club be held. Councillor M'Dougall remarked that the shelter was useless as at present, and it was absolutely essential that something should be done to improve it. ; He drew attention to an interview in The Post, in which Mr M'Ewan had stated that the plans of the shelter were I submitted by the club. This was not correct. : The Mayor : To say that the shelter is useless is going just a little too far. The plans were prepared by the Borough Engineer and approved by the club With one small variation, the structure was erected by the Harbour Board in accordance with the plans. My statement in the press was absolutely correct. Eventually a motion to the effect that the meeting be held as requested was allowed to lapse, and, on the motion of Councillor Anderson, it was decided to invite the Harbour Board Engineer to view the shelter during a southerly gale.
