The Rev. Ralph Bray, who has been for about a year curate of St. Peter's parish in charge of the Kelburn district, has resigned as from Bth Novem>] ber. It is understood that Mr. Bray expects to leave for California shortly, to take up a position which has been offered to him in the Church there. L.-Cpl. A. Elderton, of the 7th. Reinforcements, is a son of Mr. H. Elderton, of Amberley, Canterbury. ' Mr. G.. Neville Morey, of Island Bay, has been appointed dispenser and clerk for the Southland Hospital. Mr. Reginald Vincent, the principal tenor singer at the Christchurch. Cathedral, is at present in Wellington. Troop-Sergt. J. M. Earle, of the 7th Mounted Reinforcements, has been promoted to the rank of sergeant-major. Tpr. K. L. Caverhill has been made a corporal. A Press Association message from Sydney this morning records the death of Mr. A. E. Witherby, New Zealand representative on the Australasian Tennis Association. ! Mr. D. Gray has resigned his position as assistant in the chemical laboratory of Victoria College.' The council, at its meeting on Saturday night, accept-, ed the resignation with regret. The Rev. Hedley White, of Eltham, has been invited to take charge of the Methodist Church at OtaM, vice the Rev. H. Cottom, who has expressed a desire to be transferred to some other circuit. . Mr. P. Hoskins, of Wellington, has received cable advice that his son, Pte. Gil P. Joyce, of Hamilton, and formerly of the Invercargill and of the Wellington Supreme Court staff, will succeed Mr. A. E. Reynolds, clerk of the Court at Lyfctelton, who has been transferred to Port Chalmers. Mr. J. H. Davidson, who has been in charge of the orchards at the Weraroa Experimental Farm for the past eighteen months, has received intimation from the Department of his transference to the' Government's orchards at Tauranga, Bay of Plenty, where he will take control. Sergt. If. A. Christie, "3rd Battery NewZealand Field Artillery, now on service at the Dardanelles, has received his commission, and is now attached to Ist Battery as 2nd lieutenant. Lieut. Christie was for several years a member of the D Battery of Artillery, Wellington. At the warehouse of Messrs. P. Hayman and Co. on Saturday morning, Mr. J. Nelson, who has enlisted and is going into Trentham Camp this week, was presented with a silver wristlet watch with radium dial. The presentation was made by Mr. W. C. Crane on behalf of the employees. Mr. Nelson suitably responded. 2ud Lieutenant J. L. M'Alister, of the N.Z. Rifle Brigade, just before hia departure for the front on Saturday afternoon, was presented by the Wellington Technical College Senior Cadet* with a prismatic compass. Colour-Ser-geant C. P. Crane made the presentauon, and Lieutenant M'Alister thanked the cadets for the very thoughtful and useful ' present. The late Private Donald Williams, of Picton, left with the first batch of volunteers to join the Main Expeditionary Force, and had seen a lot of service in the trenches at Gallipoli. ' While he i escaped the shot and shell, his health gave way under the heavy strain, and a few weeks ago he was taken to the hospital at Aden, where he died. Private Williams was a mechanic by trade, and had a bicycle-manufacturing shop in Picton a few years ago, until his 6tock and equipment were destroyed by fire. . Lieutenant AHister Thomson, of Petone, who is to go into camp on Wednesday, was yesterday presented with a safety razor and accessories by his fellow members of the St. David's V.M.B.C. Mr. W. C. Burd made the presentation, and spoke highly of Lieutenant Thomson's work in connection with the class, of which he has been a member for the past nine years. Other members added their appreciation, and expressed wishes for the lieutenant's speedy and safe return. Lieutenant Thomson suitably responded.
