MAGISTRATE'S COURT
Mr. D. G. A, Cooper, S.M., pre- ! sided at to-day's sitting of the Magistrate^ Court. Elizabeth Russell, 60 years of age, was charged with the theft of a dress valued at £4, the property of Kathleen O'Connor. As she was hardly in a fit state to plead, she was remanded, in custody, for one week. Edward Joy was deemed to be an idle and disorderly person, wifch insufficient means of support. He was sent to gaol for one month. Joy appeared to be mentally weak. He has been j sleeping out at night for a long time now, and, according to Sub-Inspector | M'Kinnon, he was badly in need of at- i tention. Andrew Reid was fined 10s, in default 48 hours in. gaol, on. a charge of drunkenness, and eight first-offenders were dealt with in the nstral manner. For blocking the tramway traffic in Cuba-street, George Bamford, driver of a motor wagon, was fined ss, with Court costs (7s). Because he did not move on -when instructed to do so by the police, George Cook, a hawker of crayfish, was fined ss. with costs. N John William Car pleaded not guilty to leaving a motor-bike in Manners-street at night without a light attached. He was convicted, and fined ss, with coste. By letter William Taylor admitted that he had failed to lock the wheels of an express left standing in Rintoul-sfcreei recently. He was fined ss, with Court .costs (7s). Magnus Mouat, Frank Staveley, and Alfred Wilton, similarly charged, did not appear. In their cases the fines were doubled. Hemy Scaife and Herbert Smith were each fined 5s for using motor-bikes without registration marks attached thereto For allowing stock to wander at Seatoun (two charges) John Fyfe was fined 20s, with 13s costs. Walter Hadley, for a similar offence in the city, wasfined ss.
