KNOCKED DOWN BY MOTOR-CAR
About 3 o'clock this afternoon Mrs. Mathewson, who carries on a military establishment an Lambton-quay, was knocked down by a motor-car near her own premises and received somewhat serious injuries. She was taken into Mr. Orr's chemist shop, and her injuries were attended to pending the arrival of a doctor. Superintendent Ellison has relinquished active charge of the Wellington police district, and gone on leave prior to retiring on superannuation. Yesterday he formally bade farewell to the members of the Force stationed in the city and suburbs. Inspector Hendrey is in temporary charge of the district. The Trentham Rifle Ranges will be made available on Saturday afternoon in future, commencing as from to-morrow, for Territorials and Rifle Clubs. Special carriages for men going out will be attached to the 1.12 p.m. train, which will stop at Trentham Siding. The return train will leave at 5.20 p.m. A small piece of Crown land that had never been dealt with since the time the city was laid. out by the New Zealand Co., and situate in Adelaide-road, is likely to be now put to a useful purpose. The section is known as Reserve 15, and is 2 roods 9.9 poles. The Superintendent of Workers' Dwellings asked the District Land Board for the section to be 'sot aside as a site for workers'
