At Banka's College on Saturday even« , ing the (first debate of the season was held, there being a large number of members i present. The subject, "That the British Government w^ould have intervened, us and when it did, in the present war oven if the noutrulity of | Belgium had not been violuted," created much discussion, the speakers mostly supporting the affirmative, which was opened by Messrs. Casey and Whitmoro. Messrs. Winder and M'Kinley took the negative side of tho debate. At tho conclusion, after the subject had been supported by tho members, among whom were a number of ladies, Mr. Cornish awarded the palm, as the best speaker of the evening, to Mr. Winder. At the next meet' ing on Saturday week the subject will be ■ — "Which hns contributed more to the happiness of mankind, Literature or Science ?"
