The officers of the dairy division of th*s Agricultural Department "who judged the dairy exhibits spoke very highly to a Post reporter of the butter entries which this year had come forward. The ex hibition was representative of the Dominion factories generally, and competition was very keen ; indeed, the quality all round wae well up to standard. The judges had really ro criticisms to offer owing to tho uniform charactei- of the exhibits. In the cheese classes the quality was also very praiseworthy, and very much better all % ronnd than laet year. A noticeable feature was the closeness of body, an important requirement on the Home market. In this respect a previous defect seemed lo have been largely overcome. The flavour of the classes all round was sound. Mr. Cnddie, Dairy Commissioner, spoke of the, good work tho A. and 1?. Associations throughout New Zealand had done and wero doing to promote education in the manufacture of butter and chses© by offering good prizes for competitions It set up a spirit of rivalry amongst the makers, and the methods which brought them prizes they incoroorated in the ordinal y work of manufacture. This helped to improve the outputs of the factories, and led to an increase of values on the Home markets. MANAWATU WINS AGAIN. The Awahuri Dairy Company, which won the butter championship, has been very successful at other chows during the present season, and has also secured thd highest grading position at the grading ctoree for the Wellington province for the year. This is an excellent credential for the manager, Mr. C. J. Parlane. Last year, also, the championship came to Manawatn, being won by the Kairanga Dairy Company. The year's runner-up was the Levin Dairy ComEauy, whose exhibit was half a point ehind.
