DEADLY EFFECT OF SHELLS. ■) LONDON; sth October. The correspondent of Tho Times in France has received trustworthy confirmation of the deadly effect of the Turpinite shells. The statement is not confirmed officially. [The Turpinite shells contain a new explosive invented by M. Turpin, and in one case it was reported that bodies of Germans in trenches which had been shelled with it were found standing upright and covered with a fine red dust.] CONFIRMATORY STATEMENT. (Received October 6, 8 a.m.) , PAKIS, sth October. It is reported that the French entering a chateau after bombarding it found a number of Wurtemburgers petrified, apparently the result of the use of Turpinite. Some of the men were at the windows, taking aim, with their fingers on the triggers. An officer had his mouth open in the act of dictating an order.
