PROVINCIAL CROSS-COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIP
The third provincial cross-country championship under the auspices of the Wellington Centre of the N.Z.A.A.A. was run at Miramar on Saturday. The .competing teams were Wellington Club, A and B teams; Brooklyn Club, A and B teams; Olympic Club, A, B, and C teams. Twenty-seven out of the thirtyseven starters finished the distance. The men were well together for the first mile, 1 and. then Byrne, Murray, S. Hall, Cum* rings, Hodson, Donaldson, R. Ballantyne, F. J. Burrell, and C. C. .Francis drew out. In the last ! jruile' Byrne broke away, and finished in the lead. The order of the finish was as follows :—F. J. Byrne (Olympic), 1, time 31niin 36sec; R. J. Ballantyuo (Brooklyn) 2, 31min 59sec,; C. C. Frances (Palmerston), 3, 32min 9secj F. Hodson (Olympic), 4, 32min 14sec ;_ S. Hall (Brooklyn), 5, 32min Issec; C. Murray (Olympic), 6, 32min 18sec; N. Cummings (Brooklyn), 7, 32min 24sec.
The points scored by the teams were : —Olympic 18, Brooklyn 19, Wellington 43.
Selected men for the New Zealand cross-country championship at Chvi&tchurch next month are :—F.. J. Byrne (Olympic), R. J. Ballantyiw (Brooklyn), C C. Frances (Palmerston). F. Hodson (Olympic), T. Hay (Brooklyn, with 0. Murray (Olympic) and N. Cummings (Brooklyn).
