The Steeplechase winner, Zephuron, ran second in the Williamstown Steeplechase a fortnight ago. He is by the New Zealand bred Westerley (WestnWeMartha), who wa» taken to Victoria by W. H. Keith, of Wanganui. Westerley to^to win the V.R.C. Grand National Hurdle Race of 1003 from end to end, but could only get third to Marmoat. United Kingdom is probably the best steeplechaser in Victoria at the present time. In Saturday's race he was conceding a lot of weight to the othor placegetters. He was successful in tho Prince of Wales Steeplechase at Flemmgton last month. He was aired by United States, by Bill of Portland--Happy Land, by Musket-Atlantis (dam of St. Leger), a well known New Zealand family. Tho third horse Coradjill was ridden by L. Hegarty, brother to J. Hegarty, the well-known boxer. Coradjill won the steeplechase at Williamstown a fortnight previously. He is owned by Mr. E. Manifold, a member of the wellknown Camperdown hunting family. Messrs. J. 0. and E. Manifold won the race in 1896 by Dungaa., and 1899 by : Mysore, both sired by Wellington, Boa-, of Panic^ whodo best representative in ' the Dominion was the grey gelding Lonehand, Coradjill was sired by Portsea (winner of the Australian Cup and Champion Race) from Sindhia, another of the Wellington breed, who carried tho colours of Messrs. J. <7. and E. Maui\fold- successfully at Fletniagton. The dam Marmont (another of the Wellington tribe) won the Australian, Cup. Dave Allen, who trains Coradjill, used to ride his dam, Sindhia. He is a brother to J. J. Allan, who won the V.R..C Grand National Steeplechase on Hayseed and Mysore.
