PLAYED UNDER* DIFFICULTIES ANOTHE SPELL FOR THE LADIES. United (5) v. University (2). Karori (6) v. Wellington (3). Metropolitan (3) v. Insurance (1). Unsatisfactory conditions prevailed for the continuation of the championship games on Saturday. Only men's games were played, it being considered inadvisable to ask the ladies to turnout in such weather. Details of the games follow :-»■ • VICTORY 1 FOR KARORI. No. 8 ground, on which Karori met and defeated Wellington, was badly cut up before play, had been long in progress. Despite this, however, play was wonderfully open and not without interest. Although the score points in the direction of the winner/s having much the better_ of things, this was not so, and Karori had to fight every inch of the way. Wellington managed to score the first goal, this by Holland, and later a shot by Reid was disallowed by the referee. It was some time before Loader equalised, and this was followed up by a hot ehot from Brooker. The spell ended slightly in favour of 'Karori. In the second half Karori brought their tally to 6 (Loader, Brooker, Murphy, and Davies), while Armstrong added 2 for Wellington. j Mr. J. C. Cusack refereed. METROPOLITAN AND INSURANCE MEET. The Metropolitan-Insurance game was somewhat monotonous. At times tho players simply look at each opponent as he came along, and made little pretence to attack. "Mets" Were getting the better of the argument, and quite fittingly drew first blood, through the agency of Cavill. As the result of another attack, Insurance had a further goal registered against them. Loggo took tho ball on the left wing when well down the field and centred to Sheeran. The latter ,mado no mistake with the shot. Before the cloee of the spell Insurance scored, but as tho ball was just poked over the line credit is not due to any particular individual. Tho second spell was also devoid of anything at all brilliant, and the game ended in favour of Metropolitan by a- margin of 2. The winner's third goal was obtained by Sheeran. Mr. J. Gendall refereed.> :• UNITED-UNIVERSITY ENCOUN- ■ United had an opportunity on Satur"day to prove that they were as strong as general gossip 51 made 1 them appear. University, having , beaten Karori a fortnight ago, were expected to put up a really first-class fight. This they succeeded in doing, although the score makes things appear otherwise. The Collegians, however, had no luck, and after making such a good showing, their, , heavy defeat was somewhat disappointing. The goals for the winners were obtained by Boyd t (3), Clarke, and Lyons, while G. Strack secured both, goals for University. Mr. C. P. M'Kenzie was the referee. \ JUNIOR Insurance defeated United B by 14-2. United A (4) defeated Hutt'Valley (0). Kilbirnie Anglican defeated Metropolitan by default. ' ' v THIRD-CLASS. Wellington (10) defeated Insurance (0). Wesley (19) romped over Wellington (6). Pirates defeated United by 5 goals to 4. AUCKLAND FIXTURES. (BT TELEGRAPH.— PRESS ASSOCIATION.) AUCKLAND, This Day. In tho hockey game Areta v. Mount Eden, Areta won by 2 goals to 1 ; University (4) beat Auckland (0) ; -Ponsonby (1) beat College Rifles (0).
