(PRESS ASSOCIATION.) OTAGO SLAUGHTERMEN
AGREEMENT FILED. DUNEDIN, 31st March. An agreement has besn filed between the Otago Slaughtermen's Industrial Union and Messrs. W. Ken' and Co. , Dunedin abattoirs. It sets out that the week's work shall not exceed 48 hours. The minimum wages shall be as follow :— Slaughtermen, J33 10s per week ; assistant slaughtermen and joon employed in pithing cattle. £2 10s. When an assistant slaughterman shall have worked two years beyond the boys' and youths' limit ho shall be paid not le"ss tlian £5 10s. Casual slaughtermen shall be paid not less than 12s per day of eight hours. If employed^ by the week, casual hands shall be paid not less than £3 10s per week of 48 hours. Uoys and youths maybe employed at the discretion of u he employer, provided that the following iales of wages be paid :— Between 14 .md 16 years, 12s per week ; 15 to 16 years, 15s ; 16 and 17 years, 18s ; 17 and 18 yeara, JSI ; 18 and 19 years, £1 6s ', 19 and 20 jears, 12s per week ;' 15 and 16 years, 15s ; The pioportjon of boy's and youths to slaughtermen is to be one to three or fraction of three. Overtime shall be paid at the rate of time and a-quarter for the first two hours and timo and a-half afterwards. The agreement is to come into force on Tsft April, and continue in foice till 31st March, 1917.
