■ ■«»»• lIPALMERSTON ITEMS ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETT. (»1 TEUORtPH— SPECIAL 10 TIU TOST.) PALMEUSTON N., This Day. Tho Falmerston branch of tho Wellington Acclimatisation Society met last evening. It was reported that the present fishing season v?as one of the best experienced for some years, and that there were a. large number of email trout in tho Mauawatu, The holding pond was slocked with 1000 fry from Masterbon, while 30 cans of yearlings were liberated in the Manawalu at various points. Thousands of eels had been destroyed by organised parties. During the year 166 fishing licenses were issued, as against 137 in the previous year, and 26 shooting licenses— including deer stalking — against 14 in the previous year. The revenue for the season totalled £146 os, against £119 2s 6d. ' The annual meeting of the Palmerston Debating Society was held last evening, whan it was pointed out that the past season's debates had been highly interesting and instructive. Several new members intimated their intention of joining the society, which is now in a flourishing state.
