VILLA'S VICTORY THE BATTLE OF TORREON
FIERCEST IN MEXICAN HISTORY. (By Telegiaph.— Press Association.— Copyright.) MEXICO CITY, 29th March. General Villa's victoiy around Torrcon is now admitted. Though the city has not fallen, Gen. eral Villa announces that he expects to capture it within a couple of da>s. There was four days' fighting in the neighbourhood of the suburban district of Gomez Palacio — the fiercest in the history of Mexico, After a series of assaults, involving heavy Josses on both sides, the Federals withdrew inside Torreon. Heat, hunger, and thirst caused many deaths amongst the wounded Constitutionalists, but General Villa's soldiers sheftved marvellous spirit.
