PRODUCE MARKETS
According to ihe weekly report of the New Zealand Farmers' Co-operative Distributing Company, the market has been steady for prime lines of potatoes, but inferior quality, of which there is a large offering, are very hard to sell. Onions are coming to hand from the South, but there is only a moderate enquiry. Eggs— Supplies are short, and prices are very firm. Dressed pork is in good demand at late rates. Wheat and oats — There is no change to report, but southern markets are very firm. Western Wolths ryegrass and other seed lines are stifl selling freely. The cocksfoot market still shows an upward tendency, and holders are anticipating higher values. Slag and super orders continue to come forward. Several large parcels of oat sheaf chaff and wheaten straw have been offering, but business has been somewhat restricted. Local grapes meet keen competition and are in short supply. Blackberries are about finished. Peaches are selling at slightly lower rates since our last report. Quinces meet with fair demand, also choice cooking and dessert apples. Dessert pears are eagerly bought up at ruling prices. Tomatoes are meeting with fair enquiry, but prices are in buyers' favour. Lettuces and French beans are realising bedrock rates. All root vegetables meet with fair sale. Cabbages are higher, but cauliflowers are easier.
