MEETING OF THE SOCIETY. The fortnightly meeting ot the Society for the Prevention of. Cruelty to Animals was held yesterday, Mr. R. H. Webb presiding. Others present %vor?. Lewis, Jamieeon, Watson, and Anderson (secretary), and Inspector Seed. lii connection with the recent complaint of an alleged cruel method of branding sheep which was being executed in the Ilawkes Bay district, the Napier Society wrote to the effect that this was identical with the practice a number of years ago, but which was now _very_ rarely followed. 1 Although the Napier inspector did not • like this method, he did not see why any exception could be taken- to it. #* The inspector reported having destroyed a dog which had been severely injured by being run over. On his advice three horses which were found to be suffering from minor injuries were treated. He had enquired into a complaint of two horses yoked to a load of sand being severely whipped and struck with a long-handled shovel, as well as poked in the ribs, but bo far he had found no trace of the man who was responsible for ill-treating the animals. Mr. Lewis moved : "That Mesdames Christie and Kernot, and Messrs. Meredith, Webb, and Anderson be a Bubcommittee to go . into the questions of — (1) The appointment of an inspector, (2) reorganisation of the finance of the society, and (3) proposed constitution of N.Z.S.P.CA."
