EXTRA EDITION. WELLS-MEHEGAN FIGHT
SOME DETAILS. By Telegraph.— Press Association.— Copyright. (Received February 25, 2.45 p.m.) LONDON. 24th February. The following are details of the fight between Wells and Mehegan [the result is published on page 7 of this issue] : — Wells scaled 9st 9£lb, and Mehegan 9st 7|lb. The former was favourite. The fight was very unsatisfactory up to the fifteenth round, being mostly clinching. Wells scored freely at every chance, and frequently got in straight lefts in the open fighting to which Mehegan did not reply. In the sixteenth round, Mehegan began to box, and, being the stronger, scored freely up to the last round, when he was unable to make up the points lost earlier. He finished strong, while Wells was apparently tiring fast. The referee's decision was cheered, though there was some dissent. '
