HUSBAND'S BRUTAL CONDUCT
NELSON, 24th February. The Supreme Court sessions opened today before Mr. Justice Chapman. There were two criminal cases for tTial. Robert Alfred . Schwaes, charged with (1) attempting to murder his wife by cutting her throat; (2) wounding and doing grievous bodily harm ; and (3) assaulting her so as to cause grievous bodily harm, was found guilty on the second and third counts. In sentencing the prisoner to ten years' imprisonment, the Judge said he had seldom known of more barbarous and cruel offences.
