ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY
At the monthly meeting of the Wellington Acclimatisation Society last evening the chairman referred to the great loss sustained by the society in the death of Mr. D. M'Gregor. of Masterton. For many years past, Sir. L. 0. H. Tripp said, the late Mr. M'Gregor had taken a most active part An promoting the interests of the society. It was decided that as many members of the council as possible should visit Masterton and settle the actual site for the new hatchery. Plans have already been approved and after the visit tenders will be called for the works. Mr. M. S. Black, of Wellington, was appointed second ranger to the society. Messrs. Buller, Anderson, and Buddie wrote requesting the council to have the property of Mr. T. Scrimshaw, at Trentham, declared a sanctuary for birds. The council decided to approach the Government and urge that the request should be acceded to. A letter was received from the Commissioner of Lands stating that due consideration would be given to the request of the council that the shooting of deer and the trespassing on the Haurangi Forest Reserve should be stopped.
