MATERNITY BONUS BILL

In the Federal House of Representatives to-day Mr. Fisher, Prime Minister, was cheered on rising to introduce the Maternity Bonus Bill. The measure ig to be administered by Com* missioners, and provides for the pay ment of £5 to the mother of every child born in Commonwealth territory. The bonus will be paid for every viable child born in Commonwealth territory or between ports, but nothing additional will be allowed where there is more than one child at a birth. Aboriginal, Pacific Island, Papuan, and Asiatic mothers are barred from participating in the bonus. The Bill contains strict provisions against fraud.
