LONDON WOOL SALES.

FIKM OPENING. By Telegraph.— Press Association.— Copyright. (Received April 12, 10.30 a.m.) LONDON, 11th April. The London wool sales, second eeries, have opened. The market was firm and prices unchanged. The Bank ,of New Zealand has received th 6 following, cable advice from its London office, dated 11th inst. : — "The 'sales have opened with strong competition and large attendance of buyers. There is a good demand for all Kinds of crossbred wool Compared with, the average of last sales, prices are par to 5 per cent higher for crossbreds, and the market is strong for all kinds of crossbreds." The United Farmers' Co-operative Association, Ltd., and the Wanarapa Farmers' Co-operative Association, Ltd., have received the following cablegram from their London agentb, under date 11th hist. : — "Second series of wool sales (postponed from sth March) opened today. There was a large attendance of buyers. Fine and coarse crossbred show no quotable cluing*;. Medium crossbred from par to 5 per cent, advance, as compared with closing rates of previous sale:" Abraham and Williams, Ltd., have received the following cable from London, under date 11th inst. : — "The sales have opened with a large attendance of buyers. Americans are active, and the market is very firm. For merinos, fine anli coarse crossbreds, prices are unchanged, but very km, whilst medium crossbreds are ruling from par to b per cent higher than at the close of last series. Prospects are good." Dalgety and Co., Ltd., ' Wellington, havo received cable advice from their London office, under date 11th inst., in regard to the- opening of the April series : — "The attendance of buyers is good, competition is' animated, and the selection fair. There is no change- in fine and medium crossbreds; coarse crossbreds show an advance of par to 5 per cent; merinos generally are unchanged." Messrs. Murray, Roberts, and Co., Ltd., have received from their London friends, Messrs. Sanderson, Murray, and Co., the following cable, dated 11th April : — "The sales have opened firm, with a large attendance of buyers, and good competition. The market shows an advance of par to 5 per cent, for merino and coarse greasy crossbred, medium to fine greasy crossbred showing practically no change. Slipe crossbred chows an advance of 5 per cent." The -Now Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd., has received the following cable from ,ite London, House, under date 11th inst. :—: — "London Wool Sales. — There wae a full attendance at the opening of the sales to-day. Competition by Home and colonial buyers was active, and prices, ac compared with the close of preceding eeries, ruled in- sellers' favour for crossbred. Merino unchanged. The oDening catalogues were representative. America is operating." Messrs. Levin and Co., Ltd., have received the following cable from their London agents : — "The wool salee have opened with a large attendance of buyers. Merinos and croesbreds generally have opened firm on a par with last sales' closing rates. There is a hardening tendency in the market for coarse crossbrede. There is some American competition. The following brands have been cold to-day on your account. The prices named are the average for the fleece portion of the clip :—"Awatoitoi, Masterton, 9 11-16 d; DHll (conjoined), Tenui, 9£d; NR/W, Wanganui, 8 5-16 d; PC under an eyebrow, Masterton, 9d." HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT. The New Zealand Department of Agriculture, Commerce, and Tourists has received the following cablegram from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, dated 11th April, 1912, regarding the opening of the second eeries of colonial wool eales : — "The wool sales have commenced. There is a large attendance of buyers, who ehovv a. disposition to operate very freely. American demand is chiefly for lignt-conditioued coarse crossbreds. The market is firm for all descriptions at January rates. Prospects are favourable. One hundred and twenty thousand three hundred bales of New Zealand wool art' available. "The estimated value of New Zealand wools at the close of the first series of colonial wool sales in London, held on 3rd February, 1912, was as follows :—: — Superior merino, Is to Is l^d per lb; medium merino, 9£d to lid ; inferior merino, 7£d to 9d; fine crossbred (all grades). ll£d to Is l^d ; medium croesbreds, 8d to 10|d ; coarse crosobreds (all grades), 7d to lOd."
