" NAKED TRUTH."
AUSTRALIAN ARBITRATION LAWS. GIGANTIC FAILURE. HON. T. WADDELL ON THE SUBJECT. By Telegraph.— Press Association.— Copyright. (Received April 12, 11 a.m.) LONDON, 11th April. The Hon. T. Waddell, of Sydney, and a former Premier of New South Wales, in a letter to The Times commenting on a statement made on 3rd March by Mr. W. E. Harvey, Labour M.P. for North-east Derbyshire, and financial secretary to the Derbyshire Miners' Association, that compulsory arbitration had absolutely failed in Australia, says that Mr. Harvey told the naked truth. Human ingenuity never devised a fairer tribunal than the Wages Board, yet nearly all the larger unions flouted the law, and anyone would be blind if he believed that arbitration, was otherwise than a gigantic failure in Australia. Arbitration legislation would bo scattered like chaff if depression came. "The most hopeful indication is the growing public feeling against tyrannous unionism."
