TWO SLANDER ACTIONS.
MASTERTON, 11th September. Sis Honour th© Chief Justice- heard a case at the Supreme Court' to-day, in which J. H. Langley claimed a sum of £200 from S A. 0. Levieti Sv..r alleged slander, in having stated that plaintiff was a "dropper," meaning that he broke the law by dropping liquor to people in a no-license district. His Honour, after hearing evidence, nonsuited plaintiff. Another slander case- was heard, in which F. W, Barling, farmer, of Carterton, claimed £501 damages from T. Olliver, farmer, of the same place, on account of the latter haying called plaintiff » rogue and thief within the hearing of witnesses. The jury returned a verdict for plaintiff, and awarded him £5 damages.
