TENNIS TOURNEY. WELLINGTON v. CANTERBURY.

The annual tennis match, Wellington v. Canterbury, was concluded on Satur- • day afternoon, a meet enjoyable day having been spent. In the end Canterbury won the gentlemen's contest by 5 rubbers to 4 and 13 sets to 8, the Wellington ladies being victorious over their Southern sisters by 6 rubbers to nil, and 11 sets to 2. The match of the day was' undoubtedly the double between Peacock and Swanston and Goes and Ollivier. the former achieving the honours of victory. Ollivier's peculiar but effective service assisted him greatly, but his companion, seemed to tire slightly. Peacock and Swanston gave a gcod exhibition, their judgment in placing being very creditable. Many brilliant flashes occurred, keeping the tension of the lookere-on almost at breaking point. The sides were evennesG at each point. Interest in this conteet never flagged for a moment. The concluding results were : — LADIES' SINGLES. Miss Nunneley defeated Mrs. Kerry, set all, and in the final *hsy maintained 6—l,6 — 1, 6—o.6 — 0. Miss Williams , defeated , Mies Cotter, 5—7, 6—3, 6—l. Miss Simpson defeated Mrs. Lord, 6—4,6 — 4, 6—o.6 — 0. MEN'S SINGLES. Ollivier defeated Peacock, 6—3,6 — 3, 6—4.6 — 4. Swanston defeated Goes, 2—6,2 — 6, 6—3,6 — 3, 6—2.6 — 2. White-Parsons defeated Didebury, 6-5, 6-1. , MEN'S DOUBLES. Peacock and Swanston- defeated Ollivier and Goes, 4—6,4 — 6, 6—2, 7—5.7 — 5.
