SHIPWRIGHTS' SOCIETY.
The thirty-seventh anniversary of the Wellington Shipwrights' Society was celebrated by a smoke concert at Godber's, Cuba-street, last evening, Mr. Paul Coffey, one of the founders of the society, occupying the chair. About fifty members were present. .Tho chairman congratulated the members upon their sound financial position and the state of their trade generally. In the course of the speeches, the almost unique history of this society camo out. Like similar organisations in London and Liverpool, the members never interfere in politics, but always pursue the even tenor of their way undisturbed by the continuous strife without. TbiV have never asked for an award, because they do not want it. Their wages have never risen for thirty-seven years, and yet their voices are never heard in'complaint. Of the original founders, only four are left alive They are : Messrs. H. Dixon, P. Coffey, S. Woods, and D. Noble. Ot theßS, Mr. Ooffey was tho only representative of the very early days present last night. A very pleasant evening was passed in song and story, interspersed with, appropriate 1 toasts. Those who contributed were Messrs. Bowen, S. Williamu, Moran, Cromber, Coffey, Henry, Bvigane, Langdon, etc.
