VOLUNTEERS LESS INDIGNANT.
NEW PLYMOUTH, 12th August. The Taranaki Guards are now less demonstrative in their indignation concerning their commanding officer's grievance. Owing to his advice, they have decided to do nothing to mar the record of the company. SUPREME COURT SENTENCES. AUCKLAND, 12th August. Joseph Coles, for theft from a, dwelling, was sentenced to three years' imprisonment, his Honour remarking that the man was lucky to escape being declared an habitual criminal. Cyril Albert Hoskin was sentenced to two years' imprisonment for theft of a watch from a vessel at Opotiki. James Aiason, for theft, was declared an habitual criminal, as was John Ait ken, against whom there were 21 convictions.
