MAYORAL ELECTIONS

MR. CRAWFORD'S CANDIDATUREAt the Masonic Hall, Adelaide-road, last evening, Mr. C. J. Crawford delivered his third address to the burgesses in support of his candidature for the mayoralty. There was a large attendance, Mr. W. J. Patience was chairman. The main portion of the addresa was devoted to an exposition of the candidate's views on city tramways, finances, milk supply, and various municipal undertakings and city improvements — chiefly on the lines of his previous speeches. In the coarse of his remarks on the tramways, Mr. Crawford said that until he knew all the facts he was not prepared to say whether the amount allowed for depreciation was sufficient. In his opinion, after analysing the figures, there was no room for reduction in the tram fares at present, because the trams must be made to pay. If elected, he would see that the Island Bay Esplanade and similar improvements, within reasonable financial bounds, were carried out as soon as possible. Ample provision had been made for the water supply of the city, and when the Wamui reservoir was completed there would be room for the storage of sufficient water for a population double that of Wellington No milk, he thought, should be allowed to be sold in the city unless the source from which it came was inspected, and the seller was licensed by the City Council. On the motion of Mr. A. Ramsay a vote of confidence in Mr. Crawford was carried. Mr. Crawford will deliver an address aii Kilbirnie to-night. Mr. John Brodie, a candidate for the Miramar mayoralty, will meet his Seatoun committee to-morrow evening at 8 o'clock. Mr. T. M. Wilford will start his mayoral campaign to-night. He will address the electors at Fullford's Hall, Brooklyn In connection with Mr. Townsend's candidature for the Miramar mayoralty, a meeting of ladies of Worser Bay will oe aeld at Mrs. J. Paul's residence at 2.30 p.m. to-morrow.
