Mr. Johnstone has just returned from a successful deer-stalking expedition in the reserve near Martinborough, Wairarapa. Mr. H. Johnstone was accompanied by his brother, Mr. Lindsay Johnstone. They took with them supplies for three weeks, and have returned to town in three days, having in that short period shot the full number .allowed by law. Two royals, four "elevens," and two ten-pointers were secured, a<l being heads worth preserving. Mr. H. Johnstone states that this is his fifth season of deer-stalking in the Haurangi forest, and he has never seen stags so plentiful be- I fore. Tho stags, he *ay«, are now roaring at their very best, and any one with average skill should have no difficulty In getting "the limit" in a few days. The season closes on the 15th of next month, but past experience has shown that the best snort is obtained before the beginning of May. Mr. H. Johnstone returned to Auckland by the Main Trunk line to-day.
