The eequel to a fight, in Comrfenayplace last night between John Burke and John Henry Ham.x, v\as the appearance of the parties in the Magistrate's Court to-day, before Mr. Haselden, S.M. Taking into consideration that they had been locked up all night, the magistrate convicted and discharged each accused. "You don't appear to be getting any better," the magistrate remarked as he fined John Harris 20s for intemperance. The alternative to payment of the five was seven days' imprisonment. Good reports as to previous character were made by tho police regarding Henry Peter \Vebster, a young *nan, who had travelled as a stowaway on the s.s. Monowai itam Auckland to \\ellington. Accused was fined £3, in default 14 days' imprisonment. An order was made that it tho tine was paid, £2 of the amount was to be handed over to Iho Union Company as payment for the fare. Of two inebriates, one who did not appear, was fined ss, with the usual option, and the other wat convicted and discharged with a caution. Before Messrs. J. YV. M'Evven and R. W. Short, Justices ot tho Peace, at Petone to duy, Hugh M'Kegney was convicted and discharged for drunicenness, but for obscenity was fined 20s, vvivh the option of seven days' imprisonment.
