ROWING MATCH. [BY TELEGRAPH — PBESS ASSOCIATION.] AKAROA, This. Day. Tho rar* between Richard Avnst, of Tai 'J'apu (Canterbury), and George K. Whekh, of Akaroa, for £300 asido and the Eculling championship of the world, X being decided this afternoon. Theye is a fairly large attendance, interest in tho matrh being intensified by the fact of Arnst's engagement with Bany for a conteet on the Zambesi River within a few months. The morning broke- dull with a fog on tho hills, and a brisk north-easter raispd a ripple on the harbour. Shortly after nine Arnst, alone, and Whelch, with Westenra, the Akaroa amateur, went out for a final spin. The champion pulled quietly down to the Green Point buoy and back, going nicely. He was looking better and brighter than at any time during th«» past week, and was evidently all the better for yesterday's spell. Whelch's condition has left no room for complaint, ar<d he said this morning that he had never been better. At ten o'clock the fog cleared, giving promise of beautiful weather. The race is being rowed over the old course, from Porter's Point to Daly's Wharf. The tide is running against the men, and the breeze is dead ahead.
