THE HARBOUR COLLISION.

NAUTICAL ASSESSORS APPOINTED. A smart piece of salvage work was effected by Mr. C. Pulley this morning on the stranded steamer Cobar on Thorndon beach. At daybreak the diver was sent down, and he plugged the hole in the bows of the Cobar — the result of the collision between that steamer and the Duchess. At 9 ajn. Mr. Pulley's patent caigo pump was got to work, at the rate of 50,000 {gallons an hour. By 10.30 a.m. the ship was pumped dry and afloat. She is now at the wharf, and as soon as the Evans Bay slip is available the Cobar vvil] go up for repairs, and she ;s; s expected to be in full running order next week. In connection wrth the Magisterial Enquiry into the collision, the Minister for Marine has appointed the necessary nautical assessors. These are Captain Edward Stotl, local Marine Superintendent for the Union Steam Ship Comfiany, and Captain W. J. Grey, of Weiin^ton. Captain Stott has nt various times been master of a number of vessels in the Union Company's fleet, his lat>t command being the Moeraki, in the intercolonial service, and he relinquished this on being appointed to his present position some mouths ago. Captain W. J. Grey is a retired master mariner, and has been assessor <v several Naatkal Courts of Enquiry in -eeent years. He has had a considerable experience of nautical affairs, both ashore and afloat. The date of the enquiry has not yet been fixed by the magistrate.

Special cervices are to be held at Wesley Church, Taranaki-etreet, to-morrow, at 11 a.m., 3 p.m., and 6.30 p.m., in connection with tho Church Anniversary and Harvest Thanksgiving. Rpv. C. H. Laws, 8.A., president of tho Methodist Conference, will bo thn preacher at each Rervice, and appropriate music will be rendered by tho rhoir. On Tuesday a conversazione will be held in Wesley Hall. A meeting of subscriber* to the Alexandra Homo will bo held at 2 o'clock on Tuesday. Mean. Stewart Dawfion and Co. notify in our advertising columns that they have opened up a shipment of weka alarm clocks. The ff.s. Duchess will run excursions to Day' i Bay on Sunday morning and afternoon at tho usual hours. Tho full timetable ia advertised in this issue.
