A large vessel, like a Union Com- j pany's boat, sheltered yesterday between Kinikini and Long Point. To- j wards evening the steamer was past Long Point ; then she came back to Waikokopu, whistled, and steamed away. It is not known what the vessel is ; no signals were seen. [It is probable that the steamer referred to in the above message is a collier. The Navua, which arrived here yesterday from Auckland, reported having- sighted a large collier in the same vicinity. At an inquest touching the death of George Alfred O'Connor, foreman at the municipal sanitary works, who was drowned in the Waikanae Creek on Thursday night, and whose body was found cling to a pile of a narrow footbridge, a verdict of Found Drowned was returned.
