A telegTam from the Post's correspondent at the Upper Hutt state* : "It is reported that Mr. Martin has mailed his resignation as chairman of the Upper Hutt Town Commissioners, and it is Stated that his friends have selected Mr. H. C. Gibbons as their candidate. It is probable, that Mr. William Burrell, a resident of the Bentmck Block, will also be a candidate. The election is likely to take place in three weeks." The sum of £50 is to be immediately expended by the Government in improving the track from Otaki Forks to Mount Hector, Tararua Range.
