S.M. COURT REVENUE. Tne first quarter for 1910 of the | Stipendiary Magistrate's Court was com- | pleted on Thursday last, the 31st March. ] The aggregate revenue derived in Wei- | lington in that period from the business done^ — befh criminal and civil — is £1755. The amount received during the corresponding period last year was £1807. A falling away in the number of civil actions is responsible for the decrease. The amount collected in stamps for civil and licensing fees is £1025. Last year's corresponding total was £1400. The difference is more marked when it is seen that 510 civil cases were heard, as against 669 for the previous period. The aggregate amount sued for is £23.733, of which £11,117 was recovered, while last year's claims represented £31,366, £14,360 being recovered. On the criminal side of the court there is a marked increase in the amount of business. Criminal fees and fines respectively amount to £121 8s and £508 12s, aggregating £730. The corresponding figures for 190/ were £t<} and £305, making a total of £407. This year 1302 males and 117 females have been taken into custody, summoned, or apprehended, cotnpaied with 1053 males and 184 females previously. Convictions this laot three months have been entered as follow : — 1080 males, 99 females (908 and 162 respectively last j-car). A return of business transacted at the Magistrate's Court, in connection with old age pensions shows that during the three months ending last, quarter 313" ?ensions have been granted and 20 reused. For the corresponding three months last year 270 pensions were granted and seven refused.
