The cruiser Cambrian will probably leave for Colombo in July, to convoy the now Australian destroyers, due there in that month, on their way out from Britain. CHRISTENING THE YARRA. (Received April 1, 9 a.m.) LONDON, 31st March. The Australian High Commissioner, the Right Hon. Sir George Reid, has invited Mrs. -Moore, wife of the Western Australian Premier, to christen the new Australian destroyer Yarra, which is to be launched in a few days. The first vessel, the Parramatta, was launched on 9th February, Mrs. Asquith, wile of the British Prime Minister, performing the christening cererrony. The second, the Yarra, will be launched on the 9th of this month at the yards of Messrs. Denny and Bros., Dumbarton. The third destroyer, which will be named the Warrego, will be taken to pieces when built, and shipped to Australia, where she will be put together ao Cockatoo Island, Sydney. The Parramatta is of the latest improved type of the "river" class, superior in a number of respects, particularly in armament, to the "river" class destroyers now afloat in the British Navy. Her length is 245 ft, beam (moulded) 14ft 9in, depth 14ft 9in, dratt Bft 9in. She is a vessel of 700 tons (or 100 tons more than the Garry and sister boats}, and has a speed of 26 knots. There are three screws, driven by compound turbine engines, of 9210 indicated horse-power, using only oil fuel, of which 150 tons will .be carried. Her steaming radius at a speed of 14 knots is 2500 miles, but at '10 knots her radius is increased to more than 3000 miles. She will carry a complement of 50 officers, and men. The contract price was £81,500, and the ship is to be ready for sea by 14th June. The armament will consist of one 4in gun, and three 12-pounder q.f. guns. She has three deck torpedo tubes, and will carry 18in Mark VI. Royal Gun Factory torpedoes, and will be fitted with wireless telegraphy apparatus.
