AUCKLAND CUT OFF.
» _ WIRES STILL DOWN. "Messages only accepted at senders' risk." was the tidinirs niveji out at 9 o'clock this morning by tlie Wellington Telegraph Office in reference to messages fot- Auckland. The wires were all down, and communication was cut off. Shortly before 2 o'clock this afternon Auckland was "picked up" with one wire from Napier, but after half an hour this carrier failed. Definite news about the damage to the lines north of Hamilton is not yet available, but it is probable that the breaks have been numerous. There was one double bteak, an extensive one, in the Waikato district. Repairing gangs have been sent out to a number of points in the north, but the local office this afternoon was not able to estimate the time that would be required to attain biiii£ Auckland within speaking distance ol Wellington.
