• Two stewards of the R.M.S. T onic appeared in the Magistrate's Court today, before Mr. W. G. Riddell, S.M., in connection with a series of charges arising out of intemperance on Thursday night. One of them — James Bohon ColHard— created a scene in Manners-street by disorderly conduct. According to Sub-Inspector Norwood, the man received warning from Constable Nolan, who eventually took him in charge. He resisted, used objectionable words., and damaged the official* nether garment*. Colliard's companion — Arthur Jamps Holmyard — harassed the constable, and in front of the Lambton-quay Police Station made use of obscene© language Both accused pleaded guilty. Allan Cameron M'Phee, vho admitted that he refused to leave the Royal Hotel on Thursday night when .'equested to do ko by the licensee, was fined 20s, in default 48 hours' imprisonment. For drunkenness, the same accused was convicted and discharged. Both previous convicted for intemanee, John Harris and Robert Cook were each fined 10s, when charged with .a second lapse. The latter accused did not appear. An alternative of a short term of imprisonment was fixed in each case. Seven other inebriates were also charged. All were first offender^ Some wore fined and others, who did not appear, were mulcted in tho nmonnt of their bail. Another, indebted for curative treatment, was ordered to pay expenses totalling 21.-, and in default ordered to undergo 48 hours' imprisonment. Owing to tho intervention of the Easter holidays, the Customs week at., Wellington closed at 5 p.m. on Thurv day, and for the four days ending at that time the revenue- amounted to £12,796 7s 4d. Beer duty totaHed £361 19s, while Thursday's takings amounted to £9166 11s lOd.
