[bt telegraph—pbess association.} NAPIER, This Day. The representative trkket match Wellington v. Hawkes Bay commenced this morning in perfect weather. Batting first, Wellington, at 12.30, had made 115 runs for the loss of four wkkets. Fenton caught and bowled Burton with the fifth ball of the second over. 12—1— 6. A fine stand was made by Birch and Midlane, who carried the score past 70, when Midlane was splendidly caught at deep £<}uare-leg by bmyrk, off Fulton. 73—2—22. Roberts assisted Birch to carry tho score- to 115, when the latter was caught by Ashcroft off Nelson. 115^-3—62. With the score unaltered Kiavig was bowled by Nelson. Patrick had a short life, being caught by Fulton off Nelson. 119—5—2. Roberts, with the score at 127, got legbefore to Fulton. 127—6—28. Instepping forward to one of Nelson's, Finlayson was stumped by Ashcroft. 133 — 7—7.7 —7. Smith and Aldersley were togeiher at the luncheon adjournment with the score at 147 for soven wickets.
