Worcestershire, was resumed to-day in fine weather, and on a good wicket. Noble and Hopkins, the not-out men, continued the Australians' innings. The batsmen made good use of their chances. Hopkins played a vigorous sound innings, lasting 50 minutes, the seventh wicket going at 351. Noble, who batted altogether eighty minutes, lost his wicket through walking out to hit Simp-son-Hayward. He showed vigorous cutting and driving. Eight for 363. Cotter, after making 5, met a similar fate. Nine for 369. The latter left without scoring, Armstrong getting his wicket. Of the other batsmen, only four got into double figures. Simpson-Hay-ward played a good sound innings before he was caught by. O'Connor oil' Cotter, and Cuffe, the es.-colonial, had knocked up 44 when he returned a ball to O'Connor. Armstrong was very successful with the ball, getting five wickets at a cost of less than ten each, and Carter was active behind the stumps. The innings closed for 151. WORCESTER'S FOLLOW-ON. A BETTER STAND. (Received July 10, 11.55 a.m.) LONDON, 9th July. Worcester commenced its first innings with a mishap, Bache receiving a bad hit on the leg from Cotter. Rowley succumbed to the fourth ball in trying to hit a leg break. One for 2. Bache lost his wicket in playing forward to Armstrong. Two for 6. Carter disposed oi Arnold with a fine catch, standing back, the third wicket falling for 13. The fourth fell for 18, a^id Uie fifth for 44. Armstrong's fast deliveries were very destructive. Five runs later Carter, acting as backstop, brilliantly caught Pearson, and the second ball irom Cotter scattered Burns's stumps with the score unalteied. Cuffo and Simpson-Hayward became partners. Both showed good form, and their powerful driving added 50 in half an hour, the century appearing in 105 minutes. Culfe, after batting for an hour, was smartly caught by O'Connor high up oif his own bowling. He hit six fours. Eight for 143. On resuming after the tea adjournment, Simppon-llayward played the second ball he received into" O'Connor's hand at mid-on. He batted 55 minutes, and his score included a bixcr and seven fours. Nine for 150. Armstrong's next over ended the innings. Following on, the county opened with Rowley and Foster. Cotter sent down a maiden over to Rowley, and then H. Foster, facing Armstrong, failed to stop his first ball. One for 0. Pearson retired caught at 22. Rowley shaped excellently, making fine drives and leg hit's, and W. Foster also showed good driving. The Litter gave a chance to Armstrong oil Cotter when he had made 15. Two widcets were down for 75 when play closed for the day. The attendance numbered three thousand.
