OBITUARY. PARIS, 9th July. The Marquis de Gallifet, General, and ex-Minister of War, is dead. [The General, who was 79 years of age, served in the Crimea and in the Italian war of 1859, in which he was four times wounded, in Algeria, and in the Franco-Prussian war, when he was taken prisoner at Sedan. He was appoited Member of the Council of War in 1882, and Minister of War in 1899. He has published a volume of "Souvenirs."] SYDNEY, 9th July. The death is announced of the Right , Rev. James Murray, D.D., Roman j Catholic Bishop of Maitland. [The deceased prelate — an Irishman by birth — was in his 82nd year, and, according to date of consecration, was the oldest Catholic bishop in Australia. Entering the priesthood in 1852, he served as private secretary to Cardinal Cullen, Archbishop of Dublin, from 1854 to 1865, when he was appointed to the Bishopric of Maitland. He celebrated the golden jubilee of his priesthood in 1902.]
