DISTRICT FOOTBALL.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, — I notice • that Otago Rugby Union have by a substantud majority passed a motion in favour of the district football. I should like to ask the question whether the time is now ripe for district football in Wellington. Let the inception of district football in Wellington be by name only, and, say, in five years, insist on players playing for the district they live in. For at present, especially to strangers, it is very ludicrous to hear the football populace caJlinoout "Go it Pones," "Go it Jimmys," "At 'em Athels," etc., for, to the general public, under the present state of affairs, one has to take an interest in either the team that lias the prettiest guernsey on, a sly bet, or a team that a favourite player happens to -be in. — I am, etc., JOHN FUrjJER, lira.
