STRIKE RIOT.
« AMERICAN MINE-WORKERS, ATTACK ON NON-STRIKERS. MILITARY CALLED OUT. (By Iclcgraph.— Press Association.— Copyright.) (Received July 9, 8.30 a.m.) OTTAWA, Bth July. A section of workers employed by the (Dominion Coal Company struck for higher Avages. The stiikers are members of the American Mineworkers* Association, an American organisation, the remainder belonging to the 'Provincial Workmen's Association. The latter did not strike. A thousand strikers attacked the nonstrikers at Place Bay ( ?). The Riot Act was read. Fifteen hundred troops and two machine-guns have been sent to preserve order. The 'Montreal Star states that a powerful •■business corporation in the United States supports the United members.
